Port Townsend Sunrise Rotary has announced Maya Dow and Lochlan Krupa as its Students of the Month for March.

The Rotary program recognizes students who demonstrate academic excellence. The students were selected by faculty and staff at Port Townsend High School based on a love of learning, intellectual honesty, and intellectual risk taking.

Dow, the daughter of Ben and Julianne Dow, is currently a junior and her special interest is Mock Trial. This year the team took first place in district competition and fifth in statewide competition. Dow presented the pretrial statement for the prosecution and was a witness for the defense.

Krupa is the son of Melanie Krupa and Beau Baker and is also a junior. His special interest is the student-led club, Students for Sustainability. This year he is a co-president, and is leading the club’s effort to establish a ban on prolonged idling of auto motors in Port Townsend.

Krupa hopes to take the proposal to city council soon.
