With gorgeous views of Port Townsend Bay, long summer days and a slew of talented musicians, the 2019 Concerts on the Dock series will be one to remember, said Mari F. Mullen, Port Townsend Main Street Program, executive director.
Main Street has organized the event every year since 2012 after assuming responsibility from the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce.
“We think it is really a great community event,” Mullen said. “It is a way to showcase all of the talent we have in our area.”
The goal is to create a festival atmosphere replete with samplings of live music and locally derived food and beverages, Mullen said.
“It is just a great way to celebrate summer to be outside with a beautiful view and boats going by. We appreciate all the work the City of Port Townsend has put into beautifying the space. It has got a knock-out view and is a really fun gathering place.”
Concerts on the Dock bring free music downtown from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. each Thursday from July 11 through August 29 at Pope Marine Park Plaza. Area residents and visitors are invited to attend the free family-friendly events.
This year’s vendors include Mo Chilli BBQ, Barbarian Fine Cuisine, Magical Henna, James Jackson Massage, Java Gypsies, BluJay Kombucha, Olympic Neighbors and Aldrich’s Market.
“I think it is great to look forward to each week,” Mullen said. “It is free outdoor music and we have a wonderful beer garden set up where we serve local beer, wine and cider.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own portable seating. Children are welcome.
Local bands
The first four bands in the lineup are local to the North Olympic Peninsula, Mullen said.
Jim Nyby & The F Street Band will open the series July 11.
“It is a beautiful surrounding and the whole town comes out and it is a big party,” Nyby said. We are looking forward to that and the opportunity to perform in front of as many people as possible.”
The band will play Mardi Gras style music to get the party started, Nyby said.
“It is all danceable music, upbeat.”
And, in keeping with the Mardi Gras vibe, Nyby said the band will be decked out in full regalia and will likely have beads to give audience members.
