Students of the Month announced by PT Sunrise Rotary

Port Townsend Sunrise Rotary has named Adeline Gellert DePalma and Finn O’Donnell as the club’s April Students of the Month.

This month students were recognized for outstanding service and leadership in extra curricular activities.

Faculty and advisors selected the students based on their willingness to go above and beyond expectations, effectively taking on active leadership and service responsibilities and personal growth in commitment to service.

Gellert DePalma’s parents are Deborah Gellert and Frank DePalma. She is currently a sophomore and is active in Key Club, Interact and Students for Sustainability.

Gellert DePalma is most passionate about her work with Students for Sustainability and being part of bringing a straw ban to Port Townsend. The club is now working on an vehicle-idling ban and designing and planting a native plants garden.

In Key Club she has participated in a pen pal project with residents at Lifecare Center. In Interact she made blankets to share with first responders.

O’Donnell’s parents are Kate Dean and Will O’Donnell. He is a senior and planning to attend American University in Washington, D.C.

He told the club how this year has been one for developing perspective and finding opportunities in unexpected places. At school he has served as Associated Student Body president. It has been a particularly challenging school year with remote learning and finding creative ways to build school cohesion with limited campus life. O’Donnell is working with the Senior Class officers to plan senior prom on the tennis courts as a safe alternative to the traditional formal affair.

Each month Port Townsend Sunrise Rotary highlights a different element of student life, from academics to creative thinking, as one of many ways that Rotary supports youth in the community.
