Oil landscape paintings, contemporary acrylic landscapes and Port Townsend School of the Arts faculty art will be on display during the Port Townsend Gallery Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 5.

“It is a fun way to start the new year,” said Mari Mullen, Port Townsend Main Street Program executive director. “It is a good chance to meet your neighbors and also the artists themselves.”

The free event happens the first Saturday of each month as art galleries and venues in the downtown area open their doors to highlight artists’ creations.

Don Tiller Art Gallery, 1015 Water St., will feature original pieces, including contemporary acrylic landscapes.

Pippa’s Real Tea, 636 Water St., will feature about 25 original paintings by Beth Hunt of Belfair, who will be on site to meet the public and discuss her works.

“I am so excited,” Hunt said, noting her works are oil on panel. “I do landscape, still life and floral. I prefer landscape. I would say my style is impressionistic.”

Port Townsend Gallery, 715 Water St., will host an All Gallery Show featuring the art of members, including oils, watercolors, ceramics, woodworking, photography, acrylics, collages, jewelry and weaving.

The Port Townsend Gallery is a fine arts cooperative featuring many artists in the area.

Port Townsend School of the Arts showroom, 236 Taylor St., will feature faculty art with small originals by Darsie Beck, Mike Biskup, Maria Coryell-Martin, Nonie Gaines, Marcy Gordon, Meg Kaczyk, Melissa Klein, Glo Lamson, Shirley Mercer, Rick Meyers, Linda Okazaki, Mary O’Shaughnessy, Julie Read, Anne Schneider, Kerry Tremain, Dana Weir, Lindsey Wayland, Diane Wheatley, Rebecca Wild and Chris Witkowski.

Many of PTSA’s artist-teachers will join Gallery Walk to talk about their work and the classes they offer.

Throughout January, a series of demonstrations by artist-faculty will showcase a variety of approaches to the art-making process.

Artists who will be on location throughout the month include acrylic painter Julie Read, expeditionary artist Maria Coryell-Martin, maritime drawer and painter Rick Myers, and figurative artist Kelly Drake.
Demonstration times and days will be posted on the PTSA website and Facebook page.

Also exhibited during Gallery Walk will be faculty prints, books, cards and PTSA artful merchandise.
To encourage art making in the New Year, PTSA is extending its end-of-year discount promotion. During Gallery Walk, visitors can pick up coupons for 10 percent off any one class or workshop in 2019, redeemable if registered by the end of January.

PTSA is a nonprofit education organization dedicated to bringing out the artist in all of us. The curriculum range is designed to provide support for serious artists to deepen their practice, new skills and experiences for creative explorers, and innovative hands-on art-making for children and teens.Two Sisters Gallery, 210 Polk St., Kuhn Building, 2nd floor, above Old Whiskey Mill, during Gallery Walk will feature the art of Lisa Blohm, who will be present to greet the public and answer questions about her works.

Blohm will be fundraising for orcas and introducing the second painting in her new Orca Series  "Forever in our Hearts," titled "Scarlet Love." The piece is dedicated to the Southern Resident Orcas that have died in recent years.  
Visitors will receive a free orca postcard for coming in, with proceeds from arts sales benefitting two local nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping recover the area’s orca population.
