Hundreds gathered for the Port Townsend Wearable Art show on May 11 at the Fort Worden McCurdy Pavilion. This year, the show highlighted empowerment for women and girls, as all funds raised from attendance went to the Fund for Women and Girls. The Fund for Women and Girls provides grants to Jefferson County non-profit organizations to provide programming and education for women, girls and their families to ensure that women and girls are safe, secure, and equal. All sides of femininity were featured on the catwallk on Saturday: strength, beauty, elegance, power, creativity and, since it is Port Townsend, the weird, strange and bizarre sides as well. From the grimacing face of the “Shepocalypse,” to the shocking reveal of “The Agony and the Exsta-Sea,” artists showcased their inspiration from female empowerment, but also from the changing environment: the waters of the Salish Sea, the mushrooms that grow on the trees of the Olympic National Forest, and the jellyfish that float effortlessly in the ocean.
