A trooper with the Washington State Patrol was injured in a collision on Highway 3 when her patrol car was hit by a speeding driver in Mason County west of Grapeview just before noon Friday.
Trooper Chelsea Hodgson, a Port Ludlow resident who is the public information officer for WSP’s District 8, was driving south on the highway with her emergency lights and sirens activated. Her 2017 Ford Explorer was hit by a 2007 Chevrolet driven by a 37-year-old Shelton woman who rounded a curve as the patrol car approached.
The Shelton woman lost control after she hit her brakes as the WSP Ford Explorer approached and went into the oncoming lane of traffic, according to the State Patrol.
The Shelton woman was not hurt.
Hodgson, 33, was injured and drove herself to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale for treatment.
WSP Sgt. Darren Wright said Hodgson sustained minor injuries.
The Shelton woman was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
The Ford Explorer was totaled in the crash.
