Sport clam season to close at Point Whitney

Posted
Clammers will have until April 14 to harvest shellfish and mussels at Point Whitney Lagoon and Point Whitney Tidelands before it is closed indefinitely. Oysters, however, are still available for catch and consumption until July 31. The closure is being made to protect the dwindling population of clams at these adjacent beaches, according to a news release from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Surveys indicate the local clam population has declined while recreational participation and catch has increased.
