The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 217 calls for service between Saturday, Jan. 1 and Friday, Jan. 7. Below are selected reports.

At 6:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3 in Nordland, a woman said two people with a flashlight were out near her late husband’s shop.

A vehicle that was not familiar to her was parked in front of the shop. The shop contained woodworking equipment that had belonged to her husband, who passed away in August.

The woman then said the people were back near the truck, and she said she called out to them. They did not respond.

She also said someone was supposed to be renting from her, but she was not expecting them that night.

The resident then said she could hear a vehicle coming up the driveway, so she was letting one of her German shepherds out.

The woman started to yell, “Who are you?” and heard a “What?” in response.

The woman then told dispatchers it was the prospective renter, and a police response was no longer needed.

At 12 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4 east of Sequim, a burglary was reported on Old Gardiner Road.

The resident reported someone had been inside the house, a vacation home, but she did not go inside. She told dispatchers she was parked at the bottom of the hill. 

The woman said she had not been at the property since October.

Three deputies responded and searched the home, but no one was inside. It appeared a woman had been living inside the home, based on clothing and other items that had been left behind.

A copper salmon wall hanging in the home was missing, and a U.S. Mint coin collection was also stolen.

Deputies recovered some items as evidence for their investigation.

At 1:07 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4 in Quilcene, a deputy received an online tip about a puppy mill in the area.

A caller attempted to contact the caller, but the person’s voicemail had not been set up. A deputy will attempt to follow up on the tip.
