The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 366 calls for service from Aug. 23-30. Deputies conducted 140 traffic stops, of which three resulted in criminal (misdemeanor/felony) charges.
August 23: Deputies responded to an assault in Quilcene, which appears to have taken place at the Quilcene River, near the old Rodgers Street Bridge. Sheriffs said some people who were fishing took the usual overcrowded Quilcene River conditions too personally. After talking to the involved parties (or at least the ones that who stuck around), the fight appeared to be “a mutual ordeal.” No one wanted to pursue charges.
August 24: Deputies assisted Port Townsend Police with searching for a burglary suspect who had broken into a home. The suspect was not immediately located, but later on was found and arrested.
August 25: Deputies responded to the Seal Rock Campground to a disturbance in the middle of the night involving several subjects yelling at each other. The subjects were contacted, as they were known to deputies from previous contacts at the campground involving similar behavior. They admitted they’d gotten into an argument and were yelling at each other. They agreed that this was likely a good natural end to their camping adventure and packed up and went home.
August 26: A deputy took a call regarding a theft of cats that had first gone to Port Townsend Police. It was found the “theft” took place outside of city limits. After further investigation, it was discovered the “theft” was more of a breach of trust about a payment to be made at a later date. The parties were directed to settle things in court, if they desired, as the matter was not criminal in nature.
August 27: A deputy conducted a traffic stop in Port Hadlock on a vehicle driven by its owner who had a suspended license. The driver was subsequently arrested for driving while license suspended in the second degree.
– The west end deputy assisted with a motorcycle collision near Kalaloch. The rider was flown out for medical treatment.
August 28: A deputy was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision in the Port Townsend area after one of the parties called to report it. After speaking to the caller, it was determined this 1 or 2 MPH collision took place in a parking lot, not on a public roadway, and there was no indication any criminal activity had occurred.
August 29: A Port Townsend area caller reported that three years ago, they were a victim of identity theft after an unknown person used their name and social security info to sign up for various services in another state. The caller wanted this documented for record-keeping purposes.
August 30: A Port Hadlock caller reported a vehicle “all over the road,” turning around in the middle of the roadway and driving into the wrong lane. Deputies in the area searched for the vehicle but were unable to locate it.
