The incidents below are not all encompassing and represent a portion of incidents to which JCSO responded.

At 11:11 a.m., Nov. 16, several residents of Port Ludlow and Chimacum reported mail that had been removed from mail boxes, opened and discarded. Deputies collected several pieces of mail and returned it to the postmaster. (According to JCSO, this crime typically becomes more frequent during the holiday season, with suspects attempting to steal gifts, gift cards and money from mail boxes. JCSO recommends using locked boxes, checking your mail box frequently and reporting suspicious persons or vehicle to your local law enforcement agency. Be cautious of sending money or gifts to mail boxes during the holiday season.)

At 2:05 p.m., Nov. 18, a Port Ludlow resident reported being contacted by a man who identified himself as John Watson and said he wished to hire the resident as a tutor for a child. Watson sent the victim two checks, one for $850 and another for $870, for which the victim was to cash and send money orders to another person. The victim received the checks, cashed them and sent the money orders to later find out that the checks were fraudulent. Deputies investigated and determined that it was a fraud scheme. (JCSO advises that it can take more than 30 days for a check to clear a bank. When in doubt, it is always best to utilize cashier’s checks and contact the bank prior to deposit to determine if it exists. If you suspect that a check may be fraudulent, please contact your local law enforcement agency.)

A deputy was patrolling the City of Port Townsend at 2:57 a.m., Nov. 19 when he noticed a vehicle being driven without its headlights on. The deputy contacted the driver and noted a strong odor of intoxicants. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to Jefferson County Jail, where she provided a BAC of .170. The woman was booked for DUI.

At 9:30 a.m., Nov. 20, a Thorndyke resident reported a burglary and theft of his vacation cabin. The victim said that sometime within the past 20-30 days someone cut the lock off his gate and stole a generator, solar panels, batteries, an outboard motor and his Plymouth Voyager van. Deputies located the van in the Quilcene area the following day and returned it to the owner.

At 1:22 p.m., Nov. 23, a Seven Sisters Road resident reported a burglary and possible theft of their vacation home. The resident said that sometime within the past few weeks, unknown suspects entered through an unlocked window and rifled through cupboards and drawers.

A Kitsap County resident was arrested for theft and trespassing at 9:51 a.m., Nov. 27, after two different Port Ludlow residents reported that the man had entered their homes. One of the residents reported that he had returned from taking a shower to find the unknown man standing in his room. The suspect then left the residence and climbed onto the roof of the neighboring residence. The man was contacted by JCSO deputies and arrested for trespassing. During his arrest, mail from another residence was found in his possession. The man was booked into Jefferson County Jail.
