The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to 242 calls for service between May 1 and May 8. Among them were 6 animal complaints, 9 civil complaints, 27 requests for follow-up assistance, 10 patrol requests, 11 suspicious circumstances, 1 sex offense, 6 traffic collisions and 53 traffic stops.
The incidents below are not all encompassing and represent a portion of incidents to which the JCSO responded.
The theft of mail in the Chimacum area was reported May 3.
Deputies responded to the scene of a fire in the Glen Cove area at 10:24 a.m., May 4, when a motorhome became engulfed in flames. There was concern that someone may have been in the motorhome at the time of the fire, but it was later determined that the motorhome was vacant. Fire personnel investigated the incident.
Sheriff’s deputies assisted fire personnel when an 80-year-old woman’s legs and arms became stuck in the mud on the beach in the Oak Bay County Park area around 4 p.m., May 5. The victim was eventually able to get into a kayak and was transported to shore.
Someone was reportedly living in a tent on private property in the Chimacum area on May 6. A deputy responded to the tent’s location, but no one was present.
A possible body dressed in jeans and covered by a blanket was reported at 9 a.m., May 7 in the Teal Lake area. Deputies discovered a mannequin that was hanging approximately 20 feet in the air, suspended from a wooden structure built between several trees.
At 8:22 a.m., May 8, a Ford Ranger pickup truck was reported to have been stolen sometime during the previous night in the Port Hadlock area. The keys had been left in the vehicle. The case is under investigation.
