The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to 269 calls for service between June 12 and June 19, 2017. Among those calls were 3 reports of abandoned vehicles, 6 animal complaints, 2 death investigations, 6 reports of domestic violence, 5 DUIs, 2 reports of fireworks, 1 marine incident, 5 noise complaints, 1 runaway juvenile, 11 cases of suspicious circumstances, 7 traffic collisions, 9 thefts, 7 trespassing complaints and 6 welfare checks.

The incidents below are not all encompassing and represent a portion of incidents to which the JCSO responded.

At 12:03 p.m., June 12, JCSO received a report of mail theft occurring in the Cape George area. The suspect vehicle was described as possibly being an older white sedan.

At 12:39 p.m., June 14, sheriff’s deputies responded to a traffic collision on Hastings Road in which a Honda Accord struck a power pole. The two occupants of the vehicle refused medical treatment. A traffic collision report was completed by law enforcement.

A Port Hadlock resident reported at 12:46 p.m., June 14 that their green minibike had been stolen. The victim told the deputy that they had placed the minibike at the corner of Mason and Fir Circle with a “for sale” sign on it. When the resident checked on the minibike about an hour later, it was gone. The deputy searched the area, but was unable to locate the stolen minibike.

At 12:09 a.m., June 15, a sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle in Port Hadlock for the driver not having a valid driver’s license. When the deputy told the driver to exit the vehicle, the driver failed to comply with the deputy’s instructions, and a struggle ensued. The driver was subsequently placed in handcuffs and while the driver was being searched, the deputy located an ounce of suspected heroin in the driver’s pants pocket. The driver was arrested, and his vehicle impounded, pending application for a search warrant. After receiving a search warrant, deputies searched the driver’s vehicle and located an additional 3 ounces of suspected heroin packaged for sale, as well as a sharpened machete.

JCSO Search and Rescue deputies, along with Jefferson Search and Rescue, Olympic Mountain Rescue and Brinnon Fire Rescue, responded to Ranger Hole on the Duckabush River in the Olympic National Forest at 4:24 p.m., June 17, after receiving a report of a missing 34-year-old male swimmer. The missing man was part of a group that was recreating at Ranger Hole and jumping from a high rock into the river. According to the report, the man jumped from the rock and went under the water and has not been seen since. Search crews worked Saturday and Sunday to locate the missing swimmer without success. Search efforts are continuing, and divers will be searching the water.
