Officers with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to 223 calls for service between Jan. 16 and Jan. 23. Among the incidents were 4 gunshot complaints, 1 suicidal person, 10 suspicious circumstances, 5 traffic accidents, 27 traffic stops and 1 water rescue.
The incidents below are not all encompassing and represent a portion of incidents to which JCSO responded.
A Port Ludlow resident reported Jan. 17 that he and his father had been involved in an argument regarding his father’s marijuana intoxication the previous night. The resident said his father took his truck without his permission and returned it with damage to the front end of it. Deputies had received a report of a similar vehicle having struck a guardrail on Paradise Bay Road the previous night. The resident reported that when his father returned the vehicle, he appeared to still be intoxicated. Deputies contacted the man and determined that he was under the influence. The man was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI.
On Jan. 19, a Paradise Bay resident reported a burglary and theft of items within his outbuilding. The resident advised that unknown suspects entered the shed sometime during the previous night and took two Stihl chainsaws valued at approximately $700.
A Brinnon resident reported on Jan. 19 that she had left her 1980 white Toyota pickup at the intersection of her driveway and Duckabush Road the previous night. She awoke to find it missing at about 8:23 a.m. The vehicle was entered into a nationwide database as stolen.
A Nordland resident reported a suspicious vehicle taking mail from their mailbox at about 11 a.m., Jan. 21. The resident provided Jeffcom with a vehicle description and a partial plate number. Deputies responded to the area and encountered the vehicle outbound on Flagler Road. Deputies stopped the vehicle and noted mail, not addressed to the driver, in the vehicle. Deputies applied for and were granted a search warrant. During the search, several pieces of stolen mail, along with suspected methamphetamine, was located. The man was booked into Jefferson County Jail.
Since Dec. 1, 2016, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has received 28 calls for service in relation to mail thefts.
