The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a total of 255 calls for service from Aug. 28 through Sept. 3.
Deputies conducted 74 traffic stops, of which 5 resulted in criminal (misdemeanor/felony) charges.
Aug. 28: Forks residents returned home to find their house had been broken into and their vehicle stolen, along with clothing and a bottle of liquor. They also discovered food had been put in the microwave, and a bed looked as if someone had slept in it. The suspect was identified in surveillance footage.
Aug. 29: A vehicle was found abandoned and blocking a driveway in Port Ludlow, which turned out to have been reported stolen. The car was reunited with the owner, who reported the only things missing were the license plates and the car stereo, which was valued at $100.
Aug. 30: In Chimacum, a caller reported a large truck had pulled into the Center Road Park and Ride, then did donuts in the lot, and fired multiple gunshots before speeding off. Shotgun shells were recovered from the parking lot, and sent to the crime lab for analysis. There are no suspects at the time of the report.
Aug. 31: A Port Ludlow resident reported an attempted theft of a junk vehicle on their property. They found the ignition broken out with a screwdriver and laying on the floor board. The reporting party requested extra patrols of the area.
• A concerned party called and reported their wife and child being overdue from a hiking trip in the Quilcene area. Eventually, contact was made. They had bad phone service, and had lost track of time while picking berries. Both made it home safely.
• Employees at the QFC in Port Hadlock discovered two grocery bags full of marijuana in a shopping cart in their parking lot. No one was seen around the bags, which were turned over to deputies.
• A Port Hadlock resident called to report that their two cars had been egged. There was no video or suspects, though the caller reported ongoing issues with some neighborhood kids and wanted the incident documented.
Sept. 1: A Port Ludlow resident nearly fell victim to an elaborate scam regarding money laundering, in which suspects claimed to be the postal inspector. The caller reported the scam to the FBI, who also advised them to contact the sheriff’s department, and follow up with their bank.
• Complaints of late-night engine-revving and loud exhausts were made in Port Hadlock. It was reported that people had been working on their vehicles multiple nights. A deputy checked out the area and found it to be quiet.
• Several subjects arrived at a Brinnon residence, and shortly afterward started to go unconscious. They were given CPR by residents in the home, Narcan was administered, and they were transported to hospitals in Mason and Jefferson counties. An infant was taken into protective custody.
Sept. 2: A reporting party in Forks claimed there was an ongoing problem of people littering cigarette butts. A sheriff’s deputy searched the area, and didn’t find any reported litter.
