The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 204 calls for service between Feb. 29 and March 3.

Undersheriff Art Frank reported a sampling of the calls for service, which included the following:

Deputies responded to the area of C Street in Port Hadlock at about 6:30 a.m., March 3 upon receiving a report of an unconscious woman in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The vehicle was running and in gear. Deputies arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.

At 11:50 a.m., March 2, a deputy was sent to the 3000 block of Teal Lake Road in response to a report of logging trucks speeding in the area. The deputy remained in the area for an extended period of time and did not find any trucks in violation. However, several local residents were found to be driving too fast and failing to yield to the commercial vehicles.

Deputies were dispatched to a Port Hadlock location at 12:10 p.m., March 1 regarding two aggressive horses running in the area. Prior to the deputies’ arrival, the owner had corralled the horses and requested that the deputies not respond.

At 5 p.m., Feb. 28, deputies responded to a report of a body washed up on the beach south of the 4000 block of Thorndyke Road in Port Ludlow. Deputies located the body, which was determined to be that of a boater who went missing from the same area on Feb. 18. The cause of death was determined to be accidental saltwater drowning.

At 1:30 p.m., Feb. 27, a deputy responded to a collision on private property. The driver of a 2018 BMW was maneuvering in the parking lot of the Village Store in Port Ludlow and likely hit the gas and not the brake. The driver hit two parked cars and drove onto a planter. This caused the vehicle to flip over onto its roof. This low-speed collision could have been a lot worse, Undersheriff Art Frank said. There were no injuries.

A deputy responded to a report of a pickup truck dumping trash at the side of the road in the area of Teal Lake and Andy Cooper Road in Port Ludlow at about 5:30 p.m., Feb. 26. After the illegal dumping, the driver collected wood rounds for firewood. When the deputy arrived in the area, the suspect was gone. The illegal dumpsite was located, but there was no evidence as to who left the mess. In such cases, it is helpful to get a license number or take a photo of the vehicle, provided it’s safe to do so, Frank said.

A deputy responded to Chimacum Creek Primary School at 2 p.m., Feb. 26 after receiving a report of a man seen lifting a small child over a fence to the Jefferson County Library and taking the child away in a vehicle. The caller provided a vehicle description and a partial license plate number. The investigation revealed that the subject was a parent picking up his preschool child and had chosen to park in the library parking lot because it is easier.
