The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a total of 402 calls for service from June 20-27.

Deputies conducted 122 traffic stops, of which 6 resulted in criminal (misdemeanor/felony) charges.

June 20: A deputy responded to a report of suspicious activity in the Port Ludlow area, after a caller reported that a vehicle was parked on a county road in front of their property, with no reason to be there, at around midnight. The vehicle was located, unoccupied. Shortly after this, two men were located in the area, looking for a place to chit-chat. They were shown a place they could go that was open to the public.

June 21: A caller reported they had struck and knocked down a stop sign in the Port Ludlow area earlier that day with their vehicle. The caller’s vehicle needed to be towed as a result. After several unsuccessful attempts at reaching the caller, who seemed to want to have a collision report done, a deputy ended up leaving a voicemail, advising the caller to report the collision online via the Washington State Patrol’s self-reporting function.

June 22: At around 9 p.m., a caller in the area of Discovery Bay reported a man in a truck was in the Fat Smitty’s parking lot acting sketchy, pacing back and forth, and getting in and out of the truck, at one point yelling for help. The man was contacted by a deputy, who found the man was looking for his phone. The phone was located inside Fat Smitty’s, after being found earlier and placed in the lost-and-found.

June 23: A deputy and the mental health navigator responded to a Hadlock resident, claiming someone came to their property and left flowers the night before. It was also reported that they’d “just heard a noise,” among many other disorganized things. The deputy quickly determined this was a mental health-related event, on arrival, and the navigator took the person into Port Townsend for assistance, after they voluntarily agreed to this.

June 24: A Brinnon resident fell into a campfire, and sustained second and third-degree burns. After calling for assistance from the fire department, the patient became physically combative with medics on their arrival, resisting their attempts to administer treatment or offer medical transportation of any sort. Deputies arrived, and the patient finally agreed to at least let the medics bandage their hand.

June 25: Deputies responded to a man entering a Chimacum resident’s house at around 3 a.m. The man was located, and began trying to run away from deputies, but he was unsuccessful in doing so, and was arrested. After supplying a fake name, the man found himself facing even more charges than before, having several warrants, as well as fresh burglary and criminal impersonation charges.

June 26: A deputy responded to a report of stolen rolls of change, $6 in cash, and some other miscellaneous items in the Hadlock area. The items were stolen out of an unlocked vehicle, likely sometime during the previous week, per the victim. No suspects have been identified in this case as of yet. The investigation remains ongoing.

• Deputies responded to an arson call in the Chimacum area, after an argument between a couple developed into a home being burned. The suspect immediately fled in a vehicle after the fire was discovered, and prior to 911 being called.

June 27: A driver in the Hadlock area was arrested for DUI, after deciding to hammer down on the gas pedal and accelerate to an upwards of 60 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone past two deputies. The vehicle was promptly stopped, and the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested for reckless driving, as well as DUI.
