The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a total of 308 calls for service from May 23-30.
Deputies conducted 82 traffic stops, of which four resulted in criminal (misdemeanor/felony) charges.
May 23: In the Kala Point area, two loose huskies were reported to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. One of the huskies was caught by Animal Control and a deputy, with the other slipping away. It was captured the following day in a trap and taken to the animal shelter.
May 24: Deputies responded to the Mill Road camp and assisted multiple people with a string of issues they were having. It started with a phone call to 911 where a man was crying. The man was contacted and found he’d paid someone else money to get a phone card for him. The deputies went to another resident who was involved in the phone money, and found they were just along for the ride, and the person who had the money was at a different spot. The deputies then talked to that person, and got the money and phone card for the man. A report of a lost phone was also taken.
May 25: A deputy responded to a disturbance in the Brinnon area involving multiple people in a heavily wooded area. The deputy arrived and found that the disturbance had just been a verbal argument between a man, his girlfriend and his ex-wife. The issue was nothing criminal in nature.
May 26: A DUI driver was arrested after multiple phone calls from Highway 101 about the suspect driving into oncoming traffic, crashing into a guardrail and generally engaging in terrible driving. A drug recognition expert evaluated the suspect, and found they were likely under the influence of various drugs. They were booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
May 27: Deputies took a report of a stolen and subsequently wrecked vehicle in the Glen Cove area. The victim’s friend supposedly took the truck while the victim was asleep, and then crashed and totaled the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
May 28: Deputies, Jefferson County Search and Rescue and U.S. Navy personnel performed a search and rescue mission in the Lena Lake area, after satellite communications to 911 indicated a person was having medical troubles after ingesting mushrooms. The person was ultimately safely extracted via helicopter.
May 29: An assault took place within the Jefferson County Jail between three inmates. The two aggressors in the fight have had felony assault charges forwarded to the prosecutor. All three remain in jail, separated.
May 30: A vehicle was reported as having crashed in the Port Ludlow area. The vehicle was contacted earlier in the day by a deputy, who was told it was having mechanical issues and had not crashed. The owners had it towed.
