The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a total of 285 calls for service from May 2-9.

Deputies conducted 71 traffic stops, of which five resulted in criminal (misdemeanor/felony) charges.

May 2:

A car accident was reported in the Hadlock QFC parking lot, after an unattended vehicle rolled across the parking lot and struck another car, trapping it in its parking space. The situation had apparently resolved itself in the three minutes it took a deputy to arrive at QFC, and there was no trace the accident had occurred. The person who had called in the accident called 911 again to report the same.

May 3:

Deputies responded to a report of a possible break-in in Brinnon. A housekeeper reported a man at a home she was cleaning. The man left, then returned some time later. At some point, the housekeeper discovered a broken window, which she believed to have been caused by the man. The man was located and questioned. It turned out to be an estranged relative of the homeowners, who was confused about a will.

May 4:

Deputies responded to a collision in the Brinnon area involving a DUI driver. The DUI driver was assessed by a DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) and booked into the Jefferson County Jail for vehicular homicide.

May 5:

In the Discovery Bay region, a deputy responded to a report of harassment. The reporting person noted a vehicle that had come to their home. The motorist was reportedly arguing with other residents in the street, supposedly messing with their own waistbands, possibly with something tucked under their shirt. When the reporting person came out to get the plate off the vehicle, it sped off.

May 6:

A deputy visited the Quilcene school and performed a walk-through of the campus, checking in with students and staff for about half an hour.

May 7:

A deputy responded to the Quilcene area for a report of an explosion heard. Upon speaking with several folks in the area, no explosions or gunshots were heard, and no guns or explosives were noted by the deputy investigating the reported incident.

May 8:

A skateboarder was contacted in HJ Carroll Park after hours by a deputy, after being reported for trespassing in the park after hours. The skater was apologetic and cooperative, leaving upon request.

May 9:

Deputies assisted the Washington State Patrol with a multiple vehicle collision on Rhody Drive (State Route 19) near Anderson Lake Road at around 11 a.m. The road was closed for several hours, while the scene was investigated by a collision tech from WSP, and the vehicles involved were towed away.
