The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 292 calls for service from April 18 through 25. Deputies conducted 69 traffic stops, of which 1 resulted in criminal (misdemeanor/felony) charges.

April 18: Deputies responded in the Hadlock area to a caller’s report of people looking into the neighbors’ windows. The neighbors were out of town at the time. Deputies arrived in the area and searched around the house in question. No signs of anyone being present were located.

April 19: A deputy was dispatched to a report of two missing children in the area of the paper mill. The kids had been missing for roughly 20 minutes when 911 was called. Approximately two minutes after the call was placed, the children were located safely, and the responding deputy was stood down.

April 20: An anonymous caller in Chimacum reported hearing a motorbike in the area at around noon. The caller wished for the motorbike to be stopped, as the caller wanted to take a nap. As there was no violation of a law or the noise ordinance, there was no response to this call.

April 21: A caller in the Marrowstone Island area reported fraud to the Sheriff’s Office after posting an online sale ad. A potential buyer contacted the reporting person via text message stating they wanted to buy the vehicle being sold. The “buyer” sent the seller a check for $7000, several thousand dollars above the listed sale price of the vehicle. The seller did not engage any further with the “buyer” after contacting the listed person on the check and finding they had not been the one to send the money.

April 22: Deputies and Port Townsend PD officers responded to a missing dementia patient in the Port Townsend area, setting up a search effort to locate the person. After arriving and beginning the search, the missing person appeared at the doorway of their home. The caller advised this, and the search was called off.

April 23: A deputy investigated a report of someone tampering with utilities meters in the greater Irondale region. An unknown person had tampered with a power and water meter in an attempt to steal utilities. However, the efforts were not successful. PUD replaced the damaged meters.

April 24: A delivery truck struck a parked vehicle in the Port Ludlow area, prompting both parties involved to call 911. A deputy arrived and mediated the situation between the two vehicle owners, successfully facilitating an exchange of insurance information.

April 25: A deputy responded to a vehicle stuck in the ditch near the bridge to Indian Island. The driver was uninjured and the vehicle required a winch-out by a tow truck.
