She Wants to Move Like Jagger

I disengaged my life from cable tv a couple of months back and the world went right on rockin’. In a matter of speaking, rockin’ is my subject today.  It’s 1 a.m. and I’m sitting here drinking a cup of hot cocoa while Pandora music channel entertains me in the background. I’d normally be in dreamland at this hour but my body is intent on setting her own time schedule as I stumble through these golden years.  I had hit the sack at 8 pm and even though I was out like a light as soon as my head hit the pillow, I suspected I’d be up before morning arrived.

I was invited to a birthday party in Sequim yesterday afternoon. I was leaning towards staying put in my recliner as the weather was on the nippy side and I was tired. On the other hand, I’m always tired and I knew I’d be glad I made the effort once I got on the road.  Besides that, there was sure to be cake.

I grabbed my camera as this gathering was bound to have live music and I intended to tape it as well as take pictures.  You can see a couple of the videos on my Facebook page or YouTube. The birthday boy, Bob Blaurock, who I’ve known since high school, was turning 75. His band, that plays locally, includes Gene Peterson, John O’Donnell, and Mike Lundgren.  They’ll be performing at the Elks club on June 10th for the annual Port Townsend High School Alumni reunion.

It was an older crowd and I only knew a couple people there.  The weather kept the party inside. Between the band and the people visiting, the noise level got significant now and again.  I was okay with that except I really wanted my video to emphasize how good their singing was and I was afraid I’d be getting more background noise.  But then I realized most of the guests were there to visit each other while I was there to listen to the band.

In my younger years, I probably could have been a groupie following my favorite performers. They used to write country songs about people like me.  Since I don’t have TV coverage, I’ve pulled out old VHS tapes to play on my bedroom television when I’m getting dressed in the morning. In the VCR right now is a six-hour taping of old Hee Haw shows. I love old country, and while I like the Beatles okay, they can’t hold a candle (in my opinion) to The Rolling Stones.  Not sure why I’m so fond of watching Mick Jagger strut his stuff on stage but I suspect it’s because he’s my age and still dancing like I wish I could.
