Our dear Shannon left us on August 21, 2024. Born in Port Townsend in October 1959 to Lois & Edward (Widge) Black, a vibrant love of art, music (especially live music), gardening, nature & a profound love for animals guided her through all her days. She was enthusiastically involved with the P.T. Kinetic Sculpture Festival & served as a pageantry Judge for several years. Her self-made costumes for the annual event were legendary, showcasing her inherent skill for crafting & an eye for detail.
Shannon married the love of her life, Terry Nowell, on May 11, 1996 and they soon had a beloved son, Austin Nowell. Together, they built a small farm above Cape George filled with animals, plants, music & love. They enjoyed countless adventures together, many being live music events, one of their favorites being a fabulous trip to Red Rocks in recent years to see a favorite band straight from radiation treatment.
Shannon spent her last days at the farm surrounded by an incredible outpouring of love, flowers, companionship, food & music from so many family friends it would be impossible to name them all – but it was a sight & a blessing to behold.
Shannon is survived by her husband Terry, son Austin and her beloved animals; as well as Brothers Michael (Marie) Adams & Timothy (Karlena) Black and Sisters Debbi Hoskin & Laurie (James) McGinnis, as well as lots of nieces, nephews & their children. Preceding her in death are her parents, Widge & Lois Black and brother Mitchell Black.
A potluck Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Fog Farm at 501 Crutcher Road, Port Townsend. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, her family requests any donations you’d like to make to Chimacum Valley Vet, Center Valley Animal Rescue, or Mitch Black Scholarship fund.
