A security training exercise will be held at Naval Magazine Indian Island later this week, and the Navy is advising residents in nearby communities they may see increased activity near the main gate Thursday, Aug. 13.

Training activities will include the use of blank ammunition, loud sirens and bright blue-flashing lights, the Navy said.

The exercise is needed "to ensure readiness and verify response procedures," according to officials at Naval Magazine Indian Island.

Base officials said the training will take into account the COVID-19 pandemic, and "prudent measures to limit COVID-19’s spread" will be used.

Personnel who participate in the exercise will comply with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention and the Department of Defense by implementing proper physical distancing when practicable and by wearing cloth masks, officials at Naval Magazine Indian Island said.
