Sally Rae Grything (Alton), 79, passed away July 3rd, 2017 at Jefferson County Hospital in Port Townsend, WA following a battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Kimberly, ID on July 11th, 1937 and graduated with honors from Edmonds High School in WA in 1955. She thrived in school and was active in many clubs. She met her husband, Darrell Grything, at Merrill Lynch in Seattle, where they both worked, and they married in 1961; they had just celebrated their 56th anniversary before she passed.

She went back to school in her 40s and earned a BA from the University of Washington in 1986. She went on to have a fulfilling career as a Certified Public Accountant. Throughout her life, she was active in bowling, backpacking, running, skiing, tennis and golf and she didn’t like to lose! She was a loyal volunteer, loved animals, liked identifying local birds, traveled widely with her husband and was forever curious and quick to laugh.

She loved her community of Port Ludlow and was a member of the Port Ludlow Ladies Golf Club for 18 years and the Treasurer of the local paper, The Voice, for 16. She will be greatly missed as a beloved wife, mother, friend and member of the community.

She leaves behind her husband, daughter Gayle Grything, brothers Jim Alton, Dennis Alton and Vern Morgan and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on August 3, 2017 at the Port Ludlow Yacht Club, 55 Heron Road, Port Ludlow, WA. Donations can be made in Sally’s memory to: The Humane Society of Jefferson County, POB 845, Port Hadlock, WA 98339, www.hsjcwa.org.
