Roughriders shoot past EJ with offensive explosion

East Jefferson fell to a powerful Port Angeles squad last week in boys varsity football, with the Roughriders stampeding to a 50-6 victory.

EJ Coach Patrick Gaffney said the first quarter was a back-and-fourth affair that left the teams knotted at 0-0.

The Roughriders roared away in the second quarter, however, with four touchdowns and 28 unanswered points.

Gaffney said Port Angeles took advantage of a few EJ mistakes to lead 28-0 at the break.

East Jefferson played much better in the second half, and Gaffney said he was very proud of the players for working hard and improving.

The team got an outstanding game from DE/OL Kyle Caldwell and OL/LB Toby Fulton.

Gerald Lindsey paced the team in tackles, with 10.  Fulton had nine tackles for EJ, while Josh Davis added eight and Kyle Caldwell and Anson Jones contributed seven apiece.

Lindsey carried seven times for 44 yards, while Anson Jones rushed nine times for 33 yards and Logan Massie carried a dozen times for 21 yards.
