The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County recently honored Chimacum High School seniors Rachel Smith, Chanakan “Feem” Meesanam and Patrick O. Rogers as students of the month. They were nominated for their outstanding leadership, citizenship, caring, responsibility, respect, honesty, fairness and academics.

Smith, daughter of Penny Dietz, plans to attend Southern Oregon University to major in environmental science and policy. She is a member of the National Honor Society, as well as the Interact Club and Future Business Leaders of America.

She is involved in community service through the Interact Club. For her senior project, she is working with Lewis Hagen to make Chimacum High School a Bee Campus USA–certified school. Smith enjoys painting and physical exercise, especially running.

Meesanam, daughter of Kallada Brown, plans to attend the College of Radiation Therapy, and hopes to become a radiation therapist. She just became a citizen of the U.S. She is the vice president of the Interact Club of Chimacum High School, where she is involved in community service. She volunteers for the soup kitchen at Irondale Church, and her senior project is mathematics tutoring.

Rogers, son of Jean Hall, plans to attend an auto mechanics college. For his senior project, he is writing a book about how to survive in a changing world.
