Rose Theatre streams selected works of Hong Kong auteur Wong Kar-wai

Seven selected movies from the filmography of iconic Chinese auteur Wong Kar-wai are now available to stream through Port Townsend’s Rose Theatre’s digital rental platform.

The series is part of a special celebration of his career and is available through Jan. 11.

Born in Shanghai in 1958, Wong began his career as a screenwriter for soap operas before directing his debut, the crime drama “As Tears Go By” in 1988, which was fairly successful in Hong Kong. His style after became more personal and idiosyncratic, featuring his trademark personal, unconventional approach: nonlinear narratives, atmospheric music, and vivid cinematography involving bold, saturated colors.

The titles available through the Rose include Wong’s debut film and six others, including “The Hand,” the segment he helmed for the 2004 anthology “Eros.”

The program is presented in collaboration with Janus Films, with each film available to rent for $12 or the full series for $70.
