Rose Horvath passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends on February 19, 2020. She was a beloved wife to Imre for 57 years. She was a loving mother, a very proud grandmother, a welcoming aunt to her many nieces and nephews, and a caring friend. Rose grew up in Shelton, on the family farm. After graduation she worked to earn money to attend Seattle Pacific University. She graduated from SPU and taught for a couple of years before meeting Imre at the roller rink, where he asked for her phone number. He would then call her and play records over the phone for her. Along the way, they had two children, Valerie and Peter. In her 50s she decided to get an MBA, which she completed one quarter at a time while also working full-time.

Rose was kind and thoughtful. For her 75th birthday, she did 75 acts of random kindness throughout the year. She loved to play word games like Quiddler which gave her an opportunity to use her favorite new word, “zarf.” Since moving to Port Townsend 20 years ago, Rose volunteered with various groups such as Jefferson Healthcare Auxiliary on the scholarship committee, the Victorian Homes Tour, church groups, and more. She attended St Paul’s Episcopal and Grace Lutheran. She belonged to two Red Hat groups and enjoyed their friendships and activities. Rose always had a book (or three) that she was reading and she participated in the Jefferson County Library read-athon each summer. Rose was also known for her vast collection of socks, and she had a pair for every holiday or occasion. She loved walking, with friends or in half-marathons, proudly showing off her more than 20 race medals. She will be remembered for her amazing smile, her warmth, and her faith in God. There will be a church memorial followed by a celebration of Rose’s life in Port Townsend this spring.
