Rivals cross-country teams ready to race

Following one of their most successful seasons in the past two decades, the East Jefferson Rivals boys and girls cross-country teams are hungry for more in Year Two under the EJ banner.

The Rivals, merged between Port Townsend and Chimacum high schools, set a lofty standard in their inaugural season as a combined team, winning the district championship and competing at State back in November.

A total of four boys, three girls, and Head Coach Alice Fraser were each named to last year’s Nisqually All-League list for the standout season.

This year, EJ will be missing seniors-turned-graduates Max Allworth-Miles, Lia Poore, Glen Dawson, and others but the cross-country team’s young roster of runners will look to excel as the new leaders of the pack.

Rising juniors Aliyah Yearian and Tadu Dollarhide will look to lead the ladies to success, while incoming senior Sebastian Manza and rising sophomore Soare Johnston will hope to bring plenty of podium placements to the boys squad.

While Yearian, Dollarhide, Manza, and Johnston aided the Rivals in their historic successes last season, EJ is jumping with talented runners hoping to make their mark in 2022.

Talented as the Rivals may be, this year will be no walk in the park as the EJ squads will face familiar Nisqually League opponents throughout the season.

Their season opens with the Gear Up Northwest Preview meet in DuPont on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Rivals runners will get the chance to show out against their Nisqually League opponents on Oct. 4 with the annual home meet at the Port Townsend Golf Course.
