The East Jefferson Rivals varsity football team added their first mark on the win column this weekend with a dominating 56-14 win over Life Christian Academy.

“The dudes had a great week of practice last week. It showed during the game,” EJ Head Coach Tony Haddenham said of the victory.

The Rivals tallied 343 total yards on offense, with 211 rushing yards and 132 yards through the air on their way to victory.

“However, we came out flat in first quarter,” Haddenham said. “It wasn’t until we got scored on that we knew we could move the ball on them.”

Junior quarterback Cash Holmes went 5-for-10 passing with 103 yards and two touchdowns.

On the ground, a plethora of EJ players found their way to the end zone.

Trevor Wilson, Tanner Haddenham, Austen Hammer, Exael Hernandez Duran, and Siaumau Auseuga each scored a rushing touchdown.

On the defensive side, senior Gerald Lindsey led EJ in sacks with three, while Auseuga tallied two sacks as well. Freshman defensive back Rene Martin snagged an interception grab for the Rivals.

The victory shifts EJ’s record to 1-4  (1-1 conference) while Nisqually League opponents Life Christian’s record now sits at 0-3.

“This first win was a huge monkey off our backs. We needed it! The program needed it big time,” Haddenham said.

“The win helped immensely with building team confidence and getting our swagger back,” he added. “Life Christian Academy is a very young team. They were well coached and played well, but I think the Rivals came to play Saturday night.”

Next up for the the Rivals is their Homecoming Week matchup against Vashon Island High School on Friday, Oct. 7 at Memorial Athletic Field.
