Richard Scherrer

Richard Scherrer was born in Seattle to Edith and Carl Scherrer.

He graduated from the University of Washington in 1942 with a BSC in Aeronautical Engineering. Joined the Navy at the end of WWII, 1944-1946.

After graduating he worked for NASA from 1946 to 1959, then went to work for Lockheed Martin from 1959 to 1975 as the lead Aeronautical Engineer in developing Skunk Works projects and Have Blue. In between 1953 and 1964 for his night job, he was also a product design consultant for Disneyland. He developed the tracks and braking systems for the Matterhorn, Dumbo, Tea Party, Casey Jr., Flying Saucer ride and the Monorail. From 1979-1984 he worked for Northop in developing the B2 Bomber.

He married Ruth Anita Clifford in September 1944. She preceded him in death in 2001. He is survived by his son Robert A. Scherrer and daughter Anna L. Scherrer, 3 granddaughters Sheri Scherrer-Todd, Robin Louise and Jacqueline Raker, 7 Great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  He wished to be cremated and ashes scattered by family. No memorial services will be held.
