Jefferson County Historical Society will have a special open house for the newly renovated Research Center and Collections building early next month.
The free event is planned for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at the center, located at 13692 Airport Cutoff Road, Port Townsend.
According to the historical society, it is nearly finished with necessary upgrades to its collection storage spaces, which include better insulation and HVAC improvements that officials note will keep the storage environment more consistent.
Having a controlled environmental space is a critical component for the long-term care of old objects, artwork photographs, and archives.
During the open house, visitors can get behind-the-scenes tours of special collections and collection spaces, enjoy hands-on activities and crafts, learn more about the Jefferson County Genealogical Society, and connect with Jefferson County Historical Society staff.
