The Wooden Boat Festival is back for in-person fun and festivities in 2022 with a world-renowned artist joining the ranks of creatives who’ve produced artwork for its coveted annual poster.
Steven Dews, famed for his maritime paintings, created this year’s festival poster. Dews is considered one of the most successful living maritime artists in the world, and the poster art showcases a stunning oil painting.
An experienced yachtsman himself, Dews and his wife, Louise, sailed to Port Townsend on their custom 60-foot Schooner “Wolfhound” in June 2021 for a three-month stay. They stepped ashore and within a few days decided to spend a year there, falling in love with the beauty of the area, the availability of fine craftsmanship and marine trades, and the people.
Dews has enjoyed success and critical acclaim, showing at galleries worldwide and earning numerous prestigious commissions and awards; he is well-known for his America’s Cup paintings and historical maritime paintings.
Limited edition posters are available at woodenboat.org/shop.
After a two-year COVID-induced hiatus, the Wooden Boat Festival is inviting the community back to celebrate in Port Townsend, from Sept. 9 to Sept. 11. Early bird tickets are on sale at woodenboat.org.
Everyone who purchases a ticket before July 1 gets discounted rates and will be entered into a raffle to win prizes, including a private sail on the wooden sailboat “La Vie en Rose” during the Festival.
