Removing poplars is a misguided idea | Letter to the editor

I can’t help wondering what the town planners were thinking when they decided to plant the poplars along Sims Way. Would these trees make an aesthetic and welcome gateway to this historic town? Why else plant them?

As time passes, have these poplars gained the beauty that these planners had hoped for? Seems so to me.

Now we have a joint effort to cut them down. Since these officials have been trying for many years to do this without public support, I can’t help relating their efforts as a childish pursuit. They want their way!

This town and people do not want these trees cut. Besides the beauty, the trees help fight the climate crisis. And will continue to do so for many years to come. That is, if they are allowed to continue to live.
