Raymond “Ray” Maurice Thomas, age 60, formerly of Port Townsend, Washington passed away on Aug. 9, 2022 after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Ray grew up in Port Townsend where he played football before graduating from Port Townsend High School in 1981. Ray then moved to Bellingham to study welding at Bellingham Technical College.

After college Ray remained in Bellingham where he spent many years as a welder at oil refineries in Anacortes. He was well known for his ability to weld pipe in tight areas of the refinery that others couldn’t, this skill earned him the nickname “Chicken”!

Ray is preceded in death by his father William Thomas; mother Jeanne Thomas; and brothers Ronald and Donald Thomas. Surviving family members include sons Matthew Thomas, Christian Thomas, and William Jensen; granddaughter Malani Jensen (William) and grandson William Jensen Jr. (William); step-mother Sylvia Thomas; brothers William (Gloria) Thomas and Michael Thomas; nieces Michel Thomas Grkov (Vance) and Natashia Thomas; nephews Michael and Joseph Thomas; great niece and nephews Abbigale and Lucas Jarmusch (Natashia), Ty Grkov (Michel); and Polly Medina (Matthew and William) and Ashley Davenport (Christian), mothers to his sons.

Ray will be remembered for his big heart, jokes, laughter and smile. May he rest in peace.

There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Ray at the Cape George Clubhouse, 61 Cape George Drive, at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.
