The Quilcene Lantern will host a rare and vibrant musical event with SpiderMonkey Beats, led by pioneering Latin Electronica artist Angel Garcia. This will be the Olympic Peninsula’s only chance to experience Garcia’s fusion of traditional Latin rhythms with electronic production — a style seldom heard in the region.
Garcia is recognized as one of the first Latinx musicians in the U.S. to merge Latin styles with electronic forms, beginning with his groundbreaking 2000s group Mezklah. With Mezklah, he toured internationally and built a reputation for innovation that still resonates. His role was recently honored in A Good Day in East L.A., a new exhibit at Los Angeles’ La Plaza de Cultura y Artes, which also features Los Lobos, Ozomatli, La Santa Cecilia, and Linda Ronstadt.
DJ Rizoma, a Chilean vinyl collector from Seattle, will be there. His monthly night club called Global Groove, is celebrated for weaving Cumbia, Salsa, Mambo, Boogaloo, and Funk from Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
The evening will be hosted by David Bonobo — DJ, radio host, and longtime figure in the Pan-Latin scene. Bonobo toured Mexico with Mezklah in 2003 and co-hosted club nights in East L.A. and Oaxaca before launching Radio Kilombo on KPTZ 91.9 FM.
Local Hispanic vendors will be present. Seattle’s Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery on site with work by nationally recognized Chicano artist Jake Prendez.
“This isn’t just a dance night,” says Bonobo. “It’s a cultural moment — connecting the roots of Latin music innovation with today’s global sounds, and it's happening here locally.”
