Casey Hannam has been named the new general manager at Quimper Mercantile.
Hannam, a Sequim resident, had been assistant manager at the Port Townsend store. The board of Quimper Mercantile announced his promotion late last week.
He replaces Holly Mayshark, who served as general manager since April 2017.
“Casey has done an outstanding job as assistant manager,” said Quimper Mercantile CEO Peter Quinn.
“His background in store management and appreciation for ‘good stuff’ has been a real addition since he joined Quimper early last year,” Quinn added.
Hannam is a Port Angeles product. He went through the management training program of HEB Stores, a large grocer and retailer in Texas, before moving back to his home turf.
“I’m overjoyed to take on added responsibilities, continuing to nurture the foundation of success that Quimper has come to represent,” Hannam said.
“The Quimper Mercantile story is unique in that it is community owned and provides vital everyday shopping options in Jefferson County. Working with Holly and the rest of the team has been a highlight of my career,” he added.
Hannan currently lives in Clallam County with his wife, Sarah, and two young children; Shiloh, 2; and June, 3 months old.
Mayshark, who has been the primary buyer since Quimper opened in 2012, will stay with the company as its head buyer.
“These past nine years as assistant manager, general manager and, now, head buyer have been a great pleasure,” she said. “I look forward to focusing full time on bringing Olympic Peninsula shoppers the things they need to find locally.”
Quimper Mercantile opened in late 2012 and is a community owned public stock company in Port Townsend.
“Quimper has a mandate from its shareholders to be of service to our community above all else,” Quinn said.
“We chose to be a public stock company instead of a nonprofit or co-op to also tread lightly on our very generous giving community. Our intent was to pay our own way after we opened and we’ve succeeded.
“We need our local customers to give us, and every store in the area a shot at your business. We’re doing everything we can to earn your business and will never stop in that endeavor,” he added. “With Casey as our new general manager, and who was hired from within, we keep continuity and local connections intact.”
