Quilcene fastpitch-softball player Madison Coffey hit a grand slam in the fourth inning of a doubleheader March 22, giving the Rangers a 2-3 record overall. The Rangers traveled to North Kitsap for a doubleheader where they took a win for both games winning 28-14 and 10-3. Coach Mark Thompson said outside of Coffey’s grand slam, she had six RBIs, Kayla Ward pitched for three innings, striking out two, Lauren McCarthy went two for two, along with Marissa Keiffer who also drove in four runs. “We are currently in a rebuilding process,” Thompson said of how the season has gone so far. “We have 15 girls who have great attitudes and want to get better.” The strengths of the Rangers, Thompson said, is having the desire to improve and “continue being Sea-Tac League champions.” Quilcene was set to play at 3:30 p.m. March 26 (after The Leader’s press time) at Rainier Christian. “Rainier Christian is a solid program, and we will have to play our best game to date in order to win,” Thompson said.
