Quilcene ignited with a 5-0 first-inning lead and the Ranger bats exploded with 23 more runs over the next three innings to topple Pope John Paul II School 28-3 in girls varsity fastpitch last week.

The scorefest at home was the final game of the regular season and Senior Day for Quilcene seniors Kayla Ward, Shelby Love, and Teagan Graunke.

The win kept the Rangers perfect in conference play, with a 5-0 record (8-4 overall). Quilcene remained undefeated in Sea-Tac play for 11 seasons in a row with the win.

Quilcene Coach Mark Thompson said the big hit in the first inning came courtesy of Ward, who launched a two-RBI single.

Savannah McBride added to the unanswered barrage with an RBI single in the second, followed by a two-run triple in the third inning by Kaydence Yoeman.

“Kayla had a big game, both in the circle and at the plate,” Thompson noted.

Ward and Shelby Love combined for five innings pitched, with 15 strike outs between them.

Ward saw duty in the circle for three of the five innings to pick up the win with zero earned runs.

Love finished going 1-for-1 at the plate, with four runs and two RBIs.

Stormie Elkins was 1-for-2 for the Rangers and had an RBI.

Rhiannon Chapman went 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Abby Ward was 1-for-2 with one RBI; Emery Reimann was 1-for-2 with an RBI; and Kayla Ward went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.

Also in the game, the Rangers’ Jayden Talley went 1-for-1 with two RBIs; Yoeman was 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs; Destiny Hack was 2-for-2 with an RBI; and McBride finished 2-for-3 at the plate, with two RBIs.

Quilcene was scheduled to face Muckleshoot at home Tuesday for a loser-out playoff game.
