The Quilcene High School football team will put its undefeated season on the line in the Class 1B state football tournament Nov. 17 at Sunnyside Christian in Sunnyside.

Quilcene defeated Darrington Nov. 9 at Silverdale Stadium, advancing their season record to 11-0.

There were 16 plays from scrimmage and seven touchdowns by halftime, when the Rangers led 54-18.

Olin Reynolds ran the ball seven times for 120 yards and three touchdowns.

“He also ran in three 2-point conversions,” said Rangers coach Trey Beathard.

Ben Bruner ran the ball four times for 70 yards and one touchdown.

“Our two leading rushers both averaged 17 yards per carry,” the coach said.

Aston Smead ran four times for 31 yards; Isaac Dugale ran twice for 15 yards; Holdem Elkins ran for a 29-yard touchdown; Nathan Kieffer had a 7-yard carry; and Chase Newman added a 5-yard run.

“Elkins completed six out of six passes for 179 yards,” Beathard said. “He completed four of five extra-point passes.”

Robert Comstock III caught three passes for 82 yards and one touchdown, and Bruner caught two passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Zach Budnek led the team with 14 tackles and one sack.

“Chase Newman had 10 tackles, one sack, one caused fumble and one fumble recovery,” the coach said.

Garon Terry had nine tackles; Comstock had eight tackles and one sack; and Dustin Hughes had eight tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery.

Quilcene School District Athletic Director Mark Thompson said 2015 is the last time the football team advanced to the quarterfinals.

“School spirit is at a high level this morning at Quilcene High School,” Thompson said Nov. 13. “Everybody is excited for the team.”

The Rangers will play at 2 p.m. Nov. 17 in Sunnyside (10-1), which reached the state championship game last season.
