Public health workers plan February retreat

Workers at Jefferson County Public Health will take a timeout for a one-day staff retreat in February.

The gathering is planned to give employees a day of “respite and recovery” to reduce burnout from the department’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials said.

The event, planned for Friday, Feb. 18 at Fort Worden, will focus on lessons learned from the coronavirus crisis, pandemic recovery, and future change. The all-day affair will be catered and feature guest presenters. Team-building activities include creating a photo collage with mini Polaroid cameras, and a quilt for a time capsule.

Commissioner Kate Dean is expected to give opening remarks, and the day also includes presentations by motivational speaker Jonnae Tillman and Thurston County Prosecutor Jon Tunheim.

County commissioners approved funding for the retreat, set at $5,788, at their meeting last week.
