Public can comment on Navy special ops training May 3

The U.S. Navy welcomes the public to ask about proposed naval special operations in Western Washington during an open house in Port Townsend on Wednesday, May 3.

The Blue Heron School commons is the venue for the outreach meeting, set for 5-8 p.m., during which civilians can learn about, and offer their input on, the proposed training activities and locations from on-site Navy representatives.

Sheila Murray, the public affairs deputy for Navy Region Northwest, said that the Navy is proposing to conduct small-unit land and maritime training activities, intended to teach trainees the skills needed to avoid detection.

Murray recommended that those with questions check an online fact sheet on the project website at:

https://navfac.navy.mil/NSOEA.

Input and suggestions are welcome until May 18. Written feedback may be submitted in person at the outreach meeting, by email to nwnepa@navy.mil or via postal mail to: Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest, Attention: Project Manager EV21.AW, 1101 Tautog Circle, Suite 203, Silverdale, WA 98315-1101.
