The Port Townsend Redhawks boys cross country team won their latest meet by a margin of 6 points.

The Redhawks hosted their lone regular-season cross country meet Sept. 19 at the Port Townsend Golf Course against North Kitsap and North Mason high schools, both of which are 2A schools.

The competition was 2 miles in length at the golf course.

“They were led by first place finisher, junior Nathan Cantrell (10:31) who was followed closely by senior Gabe Petrick (2nd, 10:36),” said Port Townsend coach Alice Fraser.

Juniors Seamus Fraser and Kincaid Gould finished in fifth and sixth places with times of 11:05 and 11:07. Freshman Mark Anderson came in 17th at 12:31.

The lady Redhawks were unable to run as a team due to a lack of numbers, but they did run individually.

“Junior Rachel Matthes led the Redhawk girls with a second place finish behind North Kitsap sophomore Madison Zosa. Zosa finished in 12:47 and Matthes in 13:01. Junior Anika Avelino was the next PT runner, in fifth place, with a time of 14:27,” Fraser said. “Sophomores Gina Brown and Erin Fenton were 13th and 18th with times of 16:22 and 18:40.”

The junior varsity competition was won by freshman Carson Monet, of North Kitsap, in 12:05.

Port Townsend juniors Trillium DeWyse and Silas DeWyse came in second and third place, with times of 12:19 and 12:46.

Freshman Glen Dawson came in fifth at 13:04, while freshman Haven McMillen came in seventh at 13:12.

“The Port Townsend Cross Country team would like to extend their thanks to Gabe Tonan for again allowing us to use his golf course as a venue for our home meets,” Fraser said. “It is a superb site and we really appreciate how generous he has been.”

The Redhawks’ next meet will be 4:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Lincoln Park - Port Angeles before competing at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Twilight Invitational in Marysville.
