Port Townsend High School (PTHS) is hosting a series of fall events designed to help students and their families plan for life after high school. All families, students and interested community members are invited to attend the free events.

The first event is the Olympic Peninsula College and Career Fair, which takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at the Port Townsend High School gymnasium. The nine public high schools on the Olympic Peninsula have joined to host a series of these college fairs this fall. Port Townsend, Chimacum and Quilcene high schools have coordinated with Port Angeles, Forks, Sequim, Crescent, Clallam and Neah Bay schools to encourage representatives from universities and colleges, the armed services, and technical/art/vocational schools to meet with Olympic Peninsula students. More than 50 representatives are expected to participate.

A Parent Financial Aid Night is set for 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at the PTHS library. The financial aid application process for post-secondary education begins in October. Jeff Lackey, director of financial aid at Peninsula College, discusses the need-based financial-aid process. This discussion is followed by a presentation on scholarships.

A Parent Post High School Planning Night is planned for 5:30-7 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 11 in the PTHS library. Kara Lindberg, admissions representative from Washington State University, explains the variety of post-graduation opportunities available for students. Topics include decision making, community college and university admissions, testing, financial issues, housing and extracurricular activities.

More information is available through the PTHS counseling office at 360-379-4523.
