PT School District offers parenting class

Posted

A six-part weekly class, “Parenting With Love & Logic,” will be offered via the Zoom videoconferencing platform in January and February, and families with students enrolled in Port Townsend High School, Salish Coast Elementary School, and Blue Heron Middle School can sign up at a discounted admission rate.

Instructors promise to show adults how to discipline kids without losing their love and respect, and focus on helping children develop personal responsibility, self-control, and good decision-making skills.

The “Love & Logic” approach does not use complicated reward or punishment systems focused on short-term compliance, but instead concentrates on nurturing long-term relationships and reinforcing good character, according to the series organizers.

The cost to attend is $10 for families with students enrolled in the specific schools and $30 for all others, though no one will be turned away from lack of funds.

To sign up or request more information, call the Salish Coast Elementary School office at 360-379-4535 or contact school counselor Ellen Thomas at 360-379-4888 or ethomas@ptschools.org, or Chiarra Klontz at cklontz@ptschools.org.
