Port Townsend Gallery will host two featured artists in July: Loran Scruggs and Tom Saknit.
Scruggs’s artwork is about joy, play and reuse. She has been making art out of tin cans since 1991.
At first primarily working in 3D, she created patterns on paper and then transferred them to tin, using methods of cutting, folding, and slot and tab construction.
Bottle caps have also became a large part of her work. The 2D flat piece plaques she creates are constructed by cutting and nailing tin to wood.
Made with the printed tin and bottle caps, her brightly colored artworks are joyous to her as they shine with various labels and advertising iconography.
Saknit is presenting his newest works of photography and “On The Waterfront: Three Cities, One Vision.”
Saknit describes his work as a minimalist expression of a fragmented memory. The negative space in his work attempts to create a dialogue, allowing the viewer to fill in the blanks that have been meticulously created.
The Port Townsend Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and by appointment. The gallery is located at 715 Water St.
