Port Townsend High School football’s turn of good fortune continued Friday, Sept. 29 with a 37-7 victory over the Chimacum Cowboys on Memorial Athletic Field.
This was PT’s second win of the regular season, after beating Bellevue Christian 27-14 Sept. 22, which marked the end of PT’s losing streak to Sequim, Port Angeles and Mount Baker.
PT coach Alex Heilig credited his team’s offensive line with being able to establish itself.
“This allowed for our run game to be effective,” said Heilig, who singled out Noa Montoya, Dylan Tracer, Jackson Foster, Robert Hammett, Cole Crawford and Jacob Boucher for praise. “The defense did an amazing job holding their offense to seven points. I have to credit the offensive line for winning the line of scrimmage.”
Heilig was pleased to see Montoya take a positive step in his progression as a quarterback.
“I was also happy with our composure throughout the game,” Heilig said. “It would have been easy, in that game, to let your emotions get the best of you. But our guys stayed focused with the task at hand.”
PT returns to Memorial Field on Friday, Oct. 6 to play against the Coupeville Wolves.
The game against Coupeville has been changed to a 3:30 p.m. start time on Friday, Oct. 6, due to the lack of evening ferries, according to Jan Boutilier of Port Townsend High School.
