Protest in Port Towsend calls for end to gun violence | Letter to the editor

Posted

Last Saturday, June 11, Port Townsend participated in the nationwide protest, March for Our Lives!

People of all ages gathered on Water Street downtown with and without signs.

Participants held signs calling for “Gun Reform Now!”, “We Can End Gun Violence Together!”, “Not One More!” and “Enough!”

The group was calling to reimagine public safety, remember and support victims of gun violence. March for Our Lives calls for acknowledging this massive problem, for our government and communities to create laws and programs to monitor guns, ban assault weapons, and hold the gun industry accountable. It’s harder for a teenager to buy a can of beer than an illegal gun!

It was a small but committed group who marched on Water Street calling for an end to the slaughter of children in schools, easy access to guns for suicide, mass shootings in malls and unnecessary gun violence.

"Gun violence" is a myth, and anyone who pushes that myth is a fool. If guns are violent how come we never hear of a mass shooting at gun shows where there are hundreds of guns?

Just to debunk that gun violence is a myth: Thesis Statement: Gun control decreases crime. If gun control is regulated, then we will have less crime. Access to firearms makes killing easy, efficient, and impersonal, which increases the lethality of crime. In a room full of guns, if you actually think about it, use your ability to reason, most people would know that mass shootings at a gun show would not happen because, Oh Yah! lot of guns, in a school house, just innocent children.

Gun control decreases crime. "If gun control is regulated, then we will have less crime.".....I'll bet that the majority of guns involved in crimes are not registered or legal.

"mass shootings at a gun show would not happen because, Oh Yah! lot of guns, in a school house, just innocent children."..... So, more guns in school?

And what exactly is your definition of "regulated"?

"Gun violence" is a myth, "violent people" is a reality.

As the Supreme court has shown American's are more important before they are born than after. Guns, Guns, Guns, , Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Clarence Thomas, John Roberts, Samuel Alito, we are doomed. Privacy:

First Amendment: Provides the freedom to choose any kind of religious belief and to keep that choice private.

Third Amendment: Protects the zone of privacy of the home.

Fourth Amendment: Protects the right of privacy against unreasonable searches and seizures by the government.

Fifth Amendment: Provides for the right against self-incrimination, which justifies the protection of private information.

Ninth Amendment: This amendment is interpreted to justify a broad reading the Bill of Rights to protect your fundamental right to privacy in ways not provided for in the first eight amendments.

Fourteenth Amendment: Prohibits states from making laws that infringe upon the personal autonomy protections provided for in the first thirteen amendments. Prior to the Fourteenth Amendment, a state could make laws that violated freedom of speech, religion, etc.

When you vote in November 2022 remember Republicans will take rights away from you, not the right to have a gun, If you are a female the right to have control of your own body. 50 years and six religious fanatics take that right away from you. No separation of Church and state. It's time to make that a part of the U.S. constitution. The Constitution of the U.S. is a flawed do***ent written by flawed men. [No woman]. Time for women to step up and add amendments to this flawed do***ent.

"As the Supreme court has shown Americans are more important before they are born than after.".....That's a rediculous comment.

After the Const-itution was created there was some debate about whether or not to include a Bill of Rights, some worried that it could be construed that citizens' rights were only those enumerated in the Bill of Rights, that is why Madison put in the 9th and to some degree the 14th amendments.

The SCOTUS rightly returned to the States the right to decide such things as when the unborn have some level of protection, such as the "right to Life" which is actually enumerated in the const-itution (see what you have to do to avoid being censored), whereas the right to abo-rt is not.

The overturning of Roe in no way diminished the right to ******** in WA. But don't let that get in your way of spreading the fear, there were not six justices who voted to overturn Roe, there were five, Chief Justice Roberts abstained.

I believe ********* should be legal with certain conditions to consider such as viability, and the health of the Mother.

I believe in "my body, my choice, my responsibility"

.......... Try spelling it docqument instead of do***ent.

He abstained but he didn't vote against it.

Women need to step up win more seats in the Congress. Time to take the majority as we are in the U.S. population (50.8 percent).

Supreme court got rid of women's rights to their own decisions about their bodies. They also chose to take down a law in NY to make it easier to carry a concealed weapon into anyplace a person wants too. No license needed.

The ruling is a major victory for gun rights advocates who had challenged New York’s restrictive law [writers words not mine], which makes it a crime to carry a concealed firearm without a license. Two giant steps backwards.

Thus my statement that they care more about what happens to a person before they are born than what happens after they are born. People should be afraid, this conservative court could send us back 100 years or more.

"Supreme court got rid of women's rights to their own decisions about their bodies."..... the SCOTUS decided that that power was reserved to the States, not with the SCOTUS. Why not let the citizens decide? Isn't that what Democracy is all about?

" They also chose to take down a law in NY to make it easier to carry a concealed weapon into anyplace a person wants to. No license needed. "..... a concealed carry permit IS a license.

"People should be afraid" ..... You be afraid if you choose to. I'm more concerned with the inflation, the price of fuel, the lying MSM, etc.

Unlike MS, I tend to vote for the person, not the party, I know it takes a little effort, much simpler to just vote a party line, but according to MS turning off your brain and voting a straight party line is a sign of intelligence.

Unlike MS, I believe there are good and qualified people in both parties.

Unlike MS, I don't make claims that reality proves wrong. MS claims "Republicans are out to end any rights people have under the constitution of the U.S" and just this last week we saw the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS a Republican not vote with the majority in the Roe case.

Democratic platforms seek to promote social programs, labor unions, consumer protection, workplace safety regulation, equal opportunity, disability rights, racial equity, regulations against environmental pollution, and criminal justice reform.

The positions of the Republican Party have evolved over time. Currently, the party's fiscal conservatism includes support for lower taxes, free market capitalism, deregulation of corporations, and restrictions on labor unions. Also the right to a persons privacy. Standing by an ex president who committed treason. pushing forward his agenda, without any thought of what happened on Jan. 6th.

I vote Democratic for the reasons stated above. My core beliefs follow with the Democratic Party.

Do you not have core beliefs?

What is the largest political party in the US?

In 2018, the Democratic party was the largest in the United States with roughly 60 million registered members.
