I’m writing in support of Elizabeth Warren for president. I like all of her plans and the one that truly touches my heart is her plan on women’s choice.
I recently heard her talking about what it was like to live in a world where abortion was illegal. Women still had abortions —- it’s just that some women were lucky enough to have access to safe-care, while countless others weren’t. I remember and lived through those days.
It’s no longer enough for us to trust the courts to stop laws like the abortion ban recently passed in Alabama — not when Republicans are packing the courts with right-wing judges. Warren knows how important it is that we stop playing defense and take proactive steps to protect our rights, because she knows the consequences of outlawing abortion.
We need to pass federal laws that will both protect reproductive rights and stop state attempts to limit those rights.
The vast majority of Americans support Roe v. Wade, and it’s time that federal law reflected this. We can do more though — and Warren’s plan to protect choice does.
She also calls for repealing the Hyde amendment and passing the EACH Woman Act, to ensure that all women have access to abortion care, regardless of where they get their health insurance. She calls for repealing the Trump administration’s gag rule and fully funding Title X family planning, so that all women have access to the reproductive care they need when they need it.
We can do better for women than hope that they are lucky. Warren’s plan would make sure we don’t go back to those days. Please join me in voting for Elizabeth Warren for our next president.
