Property tax statements for Jefferson County properties were mailed Feb. 14, and Jefferson County Treasurer Stacie Prada wants taxpayers to know about their payment options.

Taxes may be paid in person at the Jefferson County Courthouse Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The courthouse is at 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Payments can be mailed to P.O. Box 571, Port Townsend, WA 98368, and must be postmarked by April 30, 2016.

Credit card payments may be made online at co.jefferson.wa.us/treasurer or by calling 877-812-8072. Instructions are also given on the back of the tax statement. A 2.5 percent fee is charged by the service provider for credit card payments.

Electronic checks may be used to make payments. Go to the Jefferson County treasurer’s web page for instructions and fee amounts.

Prada said in a press release that there is also a way to have taxes automatically deducted from your bank account on April 30 for first half or full payment and Oct. 31 for second half.

Using a service through 1st Security Bank of Washington, the Treasurer’s Office electronically debits accounts on the tax due date, or next business day if it falls on a weekend. There is no fee for this service.

Forms to authorize the service and instructions on how to sign up are on the Jefferson County treasurer’s website. Forms must be submitted by April 10 or Oct. 10 to activate.

Call the Treasurer’s Office at 385-9150 with any questions.
