The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 131 calls between Friday, March 18 and Thursday, March 24. Below are selected reports.

At 2:32 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, officers in the 2100 block of Sims Way were informed of an altercation between an employee and a customer at a nearby business. The customer, a man, apparently was acting disorderly and started physically shaking the store employee after an argument. The employee didn’t receive any injuries from the man and just wanted him to be trespassed from the business if he was located. Police searched around and found the man. He was issued a trespass order.

At 5:03 a.m. Thursday, March 24, police received a report of an attempted burglary from an ATM in the 400 block of Kearney Street. The suspects attempted to break into and haul away an ATM from the nearby Chase bank. They had a dark red truck and used a chain to try and pull the machine out of its bolted location. Officers arrived on the scene but the suspects and truck were gone, although pieces of the ATM and truck were scattered around the area. No money was stolen and the ATM is still there. Police are currently investigating the leftover evidence to identify the truck and suspects.

At 2:07 p.m. Thursday, March 24, a shoplifter was reported in the 600 block of Water Street. Police received information that a woman stole an item from a nearby store and left. The caller followed the woman next door and across the street to a public restroom. Officers arrived and confronted the woman outside the restroom and discovered that she had stolen a cycling helmet cover from the business. The item was returned to the business owner and the woman was arrested for theft.

At 3:12 p.m. Thursday, March 24, a transient man at the Taylor Street and Washington Street intersection was reported to be swimming naked in the Haller Fountain. When officers arrived, the man was screaming near the fountain but had his clothes on. After a lengthy conversation with officers, the man understood he couldn’t bathe in the fountain. The man is well-known to officers. He was given a water bottle and departed from the scene.

At 10:05 p.m. Thursday, March 24, a caller in the 2000 block of Haines Street wanted to speak to police about an ongoing civil dispute between themselves and their roommate. They told the dispatcher about disrespect and drama displayed by the roommate. Officers contacted the caller who told them the situation had been resolved. Officers advised the caller to speak with a landlord if the situation continues.
